Rock City Nottingham 19.10.2023
Skindred are one of the UK’s hottest acts right now and its unsurprising that the Rock City, Nottingham show (along with EVERY other date) was a complete sell out. The vibes were electric with eager fans queuing up outside prior to the doors opening and then the rush to get the best vantage points were quickly cleaned out.
So, the lights went out, rapturous screams and noise beckoned around the venue which could probably have been heard in the bands hometown of Newport some 150miles away. Then the familiar sound to all of the Star Wars’ “Imperial March” accompanied by audience participation brought the band onto stage with frontman Benjie Webbe taking in the first of many plaudits of the night ..
“Set Fazers” – the second single from the bands eighth album “Smile”, and a mixture of ragga-rock and dance it certainly set the tone of the night with Benjie raising the roof along with a huge UK flag like a general calling on his troops to go to war.. and the troops followed the fearless leader throughout the concert and the following 17 songs or so with adorating participation with “That’s my Jam” and “Gimme That Boom” before the now famous Newport Helicopter took the roof off with many shirtless individuals.
What a night !! ..and unless you are very lucky to already have tickets for the tour in 2024 .. you may have to wait a while to see this extraordinary band in the flesh.
